| The inclusion
of the Plano Piloto of Brasília in the list
of items considered part of the World Heritage of
Humanity was chosen due to the originality of its
urbanistic plan, structured in four phases: monumental,
community, residential and landscape.
 |

The 'monumental' phase is represented by the “Eixo
Monumental”, where the symbols of the political
powers of the country are displayed. |
 |

The 'community' phase corresponds to all converging
sectors of the population, such as, for example,
the commercial, banking and health sectors. It
has the Coach Station's platform as its landmark,
symbolising a union with the other cities of the
Federal District. |
 |

The 'residential' phase is represented by the
“superquadras” [super-squares] with
their building blocks forming arches, giving people
the freedom to walk under and around it. |
 |

The 'landscape' phase adapts itself to the other
phases. They include: the grassed areas, parks,
gardens, playing areas, The Park of the City,
and the banks of the Paranoá Lake. |
